Juvenis Original Works Residency 2027

For this year’s Juvenis festival, we will be hosting a youth artist residency for the purpose of developing an original work of theatre or performance art!

Who can apply?

Anyone under 30 who has an idea for a creative work!

The residency is open to any type of performance. This could be a play, a musical, a play with music, performance art, immersive theatre, etc.

We’re looking for an original and innovative idea, something different than what has already been seen in Kingston.

This must be an unfinished work—if you’ve already written a completed play, this is not the place for it. We’re looking for an original concept that you can create during the residency!

Artist applications open November 1st and close November 15th.

What does the residency offer for the artist?

Starting in January 2027, you’ll receive free studio time at the Blue Canoe studio (1296 Bath Road) every week on Sundays, to use as rehearsal space as you work on bringing your project to life.

We’ll host auditions to help you cast performers for your project, as well as offering support in opening applications and hiring a production team.

You’ll also have company and administrative support, as well as marketing for your project done for you by the Blue Canoe team.

The final presentation for your project can be scaled based on the project, ranging from a staged reading to a full production, and the date of the presentation is flexible. The residency ends on September 30th, 2027, so the presentation must take place before the end of September.

This will be a pay share project, with all proceeds split between the cast and crew.
